in the country promoting research on various aspects of fine arts, music,
theater, film, and television. Main priorities include but are not limited
to identifying, documenting and studying of art traditions in Bulgaria from
ancient to contemporary times, approached from historical, theoretical and
interdisciplinary perspectives. Bulgarian culture is studied as well in
relation with foreign developments and in the context of global cultural
processes. The Institute conducts educational programs for Ph.D.
students in related academic fields. At present, 82 full-time scholars and 12 Ph.D. students
